Big news for Edmonton’s Filipino community! EPIC, in partnership with Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF), has just received approval to launch the Bicultural Parenting Project, “Ang Ating Mga Anak, Tanging Yaman – Our Children, Our Wealth".
What is the Bicultural Parenting Project?
Raising kids between two cultures can be tough. This project helps Filipino families in Edmonton learn ways to blend Filipino and Canadian values with confidence and connection. Parents will co-create the program, making sure it suits real family needs. Workshops are interactive, hands-on, and mostly in Filipino, to encourage open and honest conversations. There’s even a special celebration where parents and kids can share what they’ve learned.
Who benefits?
About thirty parents and up to forty children will take part. Families will build closer, healthier relationships through art, music, and group discussions. Kids will develop a stronger sense of identity, and parents will feel more empowered in their parenting journey.
Strong Community Partnerships
This project is not just an EPIC and ECF effort—it is a true community collaboration. We’re grateful for the participation of the Movement for the Responsible and Active Engagement (MARE) of Filipino Women, the Philippine Arts Council (PAC), and the Multicultural Health Brokers (MCHB) Coop. MARE is supporting parent recruitment, PAC is providing guidance on using art and media, while MCHB is lending their expertise in multicultural parenting education. Their contributions are helping make this program effective and culturally meaningful.
In the works!
We’re hiring a Project Coordinator and Bicultural Parenting Facilitators to help bring this program to life. We are currently working on the paper works and will soon announce the opening! Abangan!
